I am currently working on a publication & exhibition about a trip to Ladakh and Zanskar in India.
I was part of an international team that undertook a rafting expedition on the Zanskar River, 44 years ago. In a narrow gorge our rafts flipped over throwing us in the icecold wild river. After life-threatening manoeuvres we all managed to reach shore. Without food, clothing and so on we were trapped. After exploration and several attempts we concluded there was no way out. The rock walls were too sharp and steep. We were in a hostile world, the home of snow leopards.
Through an unlikely series of circumstances, after days of desperation, all ten of us were eventually rescued.
Until now, this story has not been told to the world. Thanks to the courage of Indian Airforce pilots, we can testify to our good fortune. I even got all my photos back - locked in sealed boxes - unique shots of a rare, rugged area.
Indian Airforce pilots found us after days. In honor of these heroes:
I'll donate a photo exhibition in Leh, Ladakh, India - planned opening april 2027
